Each specimen (12x15cm) is printed letterpress from handset foundry types. These precious original metal types are part of the historical assets of the Tallone Press (www.archiveofstyles.com).


Created by the greatest type designers and cast between the 1900’s and 1970’s by the most notable foundries, these original types each represent the pinnacle of modern aesthetic.
Especially suited for advertising, they span from Art nouveau and Bauhaus to post-modern styles. 

These masterpieces continue to be protagonists of written communication and advertising.

Specimens are printed on heavy weight fine papers, made by French and Italian most renowned papermills, such as Fabriano, B.F.K. Rives, Magnani, Canson & Montgolfier.

Paper shades may vary from those shown in the images.

The folder which houses the specimens is letterpress printed in original Triennale type, cast in 1933 in Milan, which is a symbol of Italian Rationalism. 

A resealable bag personalized with the Tallone logo contains the series.

Through this publication, the Tallone Press pays tribute to the masterpieces which represent the pinnacle of modern aesthetic. This release is the latest of a series dedicated to type design. It started with the Manuali Tipografici set, dedicated to timeless oldstyle typefaces, that was followed by publications focusing on Italian 20th-century type designers Raffaello Bertieri, Giulio Da Milano, Alessandro Butti, and Aldo Novarese, so far not sufficiently valued.

The original movable types handled for the typesetting of these specimens, make them an exceptional endeavor in the contemporary printing scene. 

Neither monotype nor linotype are used. Tallone Press also do not print from plastic plates (photopolymer), which are derived from digital compositions. These typesetting systems from a keyboard are improperly passed off as manual typography.
