PRE-ORDER NOW. Special prices until April 12, 2026. Copies will be delivered in July 2026.

Galeazzo di Tarsia (Naples 1520 - Belmonte Calabro 1553) left us only 50 love poems, but of high caliber: "There is no history or anthology of Italian literature in which Galeazzo di Tarsia does not occupy an undisputed place," writes philologist Gianfranco Contini.

His verses echoes Dante and Petrarch, with a restlessness that already reaches towards Leopardi (from here he drew his “ermo colle”):

Io voi quando vedrò, pregio del cielo,

ignuda folgorar su l’erba fresca,

o sotto molle e prezïoso velo?

Ahi, di misero amante van desiri!

Donna, s’esser non può, non vi rincresca

che da quest’ermo colle io vi sospiri.

The following copies will be printed:

.80 on pure-cotton Magnani paper (€ 160 to be paid by April 12. Then the price will be € 200);

.30 on white Hahnemühle Bugra, which include two drawings of women's faces, by Pietro Paolo Tarasco, different for each copy. Technique: ink on paper drawings made by the artist with both hands: the right and the left hand traced the two halves of the face simultaneously and symmetrically (€ 470 to be paid by April 12. Then the price will be € 550);

.16 on light-blue Fiume Giano paper, made in Fabriano (€ 270 to be paid by April 12. Then the price will be € 320);

.14 on grey Hahnemühle Bugra (€ 280 to be paid by April 12. Then the price will be € 340);

.8 on “all’onda” Magnani paper, handmade by Silvio Vezzani with the purpose of  replacing the endpapers of the ancient books damaged by the Arno flood in Florence in 1966. It features a unique watermark, which represents 4 waves (which remind the date of November 4th), transfixed by an arrow which emerges from the waves, thus envisioning the recovery of Florence after the tragedy. It was hand-made by Silvio Vezzani in the 15th-century "Le Carte" Papermill, in Pescia, Tuscany (€ 330 to be paid by April 12. Then the price will be € 400);

.3 on Chinese paper (€ 580 to be paid by April 12. Then the price will be € 670).

.1 on handmade Japanese Gampi paper (not for sale).

A volume in the 8vo format (cm 16,5x25,5) of 64 pages entirely typeset by hand in metal movable type, letter by letter. One by one, each sort was arranged on the composing stick to form the words and the lines of text.
The text type is 11-point original Caslon. The steel punches of this precious and rare type were hand-cut by William Caslon in London in the first half of the 18th century. These types are part of the original equipment of Tallone’s typographic studio, which has been continuously in operation since the late 18th century.

The first scholarly edition of Galeazzo’s Rime appeared in 1951, printed in Paris by Alberto Tallone, and it was edited by philologists Gianfranco Contini and Daniele Ponchiroli. The present book adopts the text of the 1951 edition.

Neither monotype nor linotype are used. These typesetting systems from a keyboard are often passed off as manual typography.

The Tallone Press does not print from plastic relief plates either. Derived from digital compositions, they are very much in vogue to simulate the effect of type impression onto the paper.

The number of movable types handled for the manual typesetting of this book, makes it an exceptional endeavor in contemporary fine printing.

Printed on very fine paper and sewn by hand, this collector’s edition is a sophisticated gift meant to last over time and designed to give the best reading experience possible.
