The Canticle of the Sun, also known as the Canticle of the Creatures, is a moving hymn to the beauty of Creation in the form of a song of thanksgiving to the Lord. Written in 1225, it is considered the first poem in vernacular Italian.

The fall of the Lombards defeated by the Franks. Based upon events that actually happened: Italy, always a battlefield for foreign powers vying for dominion over its lands, is subjugated by Charlemagne, who defeats and chased the Lombards away in 774 AD.

With this work, Manzoni warns that nothing seems to have changed since then: the events of the Risorgimento still see Italians arrayed against Italians, to the advantage of foreign powers who continue to benefit from these internal disputes.

Never has a lover expressed her passion, all the stirrings of her ardent heart, so truly and completely. Marianna (born in Beja, Portugal in 1640) wrote her distant lover five immortal letters, in which the cries of love beautifully explode.

First published in 1669, these Letters quickly became a literary classic.
